Notes from the Table: Warm Wax, Stories & Laughter at Our Latest Workshop

Some afternoons just stay with you. Our latest workshop was one of them — a table full of new faces, the soft smell of warm wax, and conversations that carried on long after the last candle was poured. Our latest candle-making workshop at Sere Selfcare was one of those afternoons. There was the gentle scent of fragrance oils in the air, the warmth of melted wax, and the kind of laughter that makes time pass without you noticing. What began as a creative experience became something more: an opportunity to pause, connect, and enjoy being present.

Finding your scent
Every candle begins with a choice. Before the wax is poured, there's the chance to explore different fragrance oils, notice what draws you in, and experiment with combinations until you discover a scent that feels right. Some fragrances feel fresh and bright. Others are warm, woody, and comforting. There is no single right choice; part of the experience is discovering what you enjoy and trusting your own preferences. It's a small but lovely reminder that the things we gravitate towards can be deeply personal. Even something as simple as choosing a scent can become an opportunity to slow down and pay attention to yourself.
More than a candle Of course, the candles are only part of the story. Around the table, strangers become conversation partners. People exchange ideas, share a laugh, and discover little things they have in common. The atmosphere becomes less about following instructions and more about enjoying the moment together.
Once the fragrances have been chosen, the focus shifts to the candle itself. Wicks are centred, wax is prepared at the right temperature, and each pour calls for a little patience and attention. For a moment, the conversations soften as everyone concentrates on bringing their creation to life. There is something satisfying about making something with your own hands. You move through the process step by step, and gradually, the materials in front of you become something personal: a candle made with your chosen fragrance and a memory attached to the afternoon. It's one of our favourite parts of the experience. Not because everything has to be perfect, but because there is joy in creating something that is entirely your own.
